St. Marineh Church

St. Marineh church (1271) is on top of a hill and has an unusually vertical composition for Armenian architecture. It is located at the center of Ashtarak town.

On the inside, Marineh is cruciform, on the outside – a rectangular, domed church made of brown tufa. There are 2 double-storey sacristies on both sides of the altar. The sundial engraved on the southern façade of the church has been preserved and is perfectly visible. At the beginning of XX c. a stone meeting-place-narthex was attached to the church from the west at the site of the old one. Remnants of basalt walls have been preserved around it. The area has been renovated in 1972.
