St. Gayaneh Church
St. Gayaneh Church (630) is situated in the southern part of Vagharshapat with the eternally white peaks of Ararat in its background. The church was built under Catholicos Yezr I Parazhnakertsi at the site of a IV c. chapel.

St Gayane is a domed tri-nave basilica. It has a solemn interior and strikes one with its simplicity. According to the legend, Virgin Gayaneh was buried in the burial chamber under the main altar. This is where she was martyred alongside her 2 friends. The Armenian Church celebrates Holy Virgin Gayaneh's Day on the 60th day of Easter. There is a cemetery next to the southern wall of the cathedral with tombs of the famous sons of the Armenian people.
